Op Art is a movement from the 1960s which used precise geometrical patterns painted in vivid colors or black-and-white to create optical illusions of movement and fool the viewer's sense of perspective.
ReplyDeleteIt took place is the 1960's.
Victor Vasarely was born Vásárely Gyözö in Pécs, Hungary, on April 9, 1906, but was active in France for most of his artistic career.
Bridget used color in her op art while Victor used black and white. They are similar because there both op art and trippy.
I think op are is interesting. I think its cool how it makes it seem like its moving and is trippy.

OP Art is a form of abstract at that gives the illusion of movement by the precise use of pattern and color.
ReplyDeleteThe OP Art movement started in 1964.
Victor Vasarely was a Hungarian-French artist. He lived in Paris. He used wood, metal, and plastics in his art work. Victor is famous zebra prints and worked with both color and black and white.
Bridget Riley was an English painter. She lived and worked in London, Cornwall, and France. She used acrylics and oil paints. She used squares, lines, and ovals in most of her artwork. She worked primarily with black and white.
They both produced large amounts of OP Art.
I personal think that OP art is a very creative form of art because it can be done in many different ways and made with many different mediums.

OP Art is a form of abstract art that gives the illusion of movement by the precise use of pattern and color, or in which conflicting patterns emerge and overlap.
ReplyDeleteOp art began in 1964, during the 'British Invasion' of pop music and rock and roll like the Beatles, and Rolling Stones
Born - 1908, Died - 1997. From Hungary. Used mostly color, used squares / rectangles a lot. Various
Bridget Riley was born in Norwood, South London in 1931. Mostly Black and White. Various, paint paper, etc.
Rileys art is more fluid, while Varasley used more geometric and squared shapes
I personally rather enjoy OP art, and find it interesting how it is able to trick the eyes

What is Op Art? - A form of abstract art that gives the illusion of movement by the precise use of pattern and color, or in which conflicting patterns emerge and overlap.
ReplyDeleteWhen did the movement take place? - Op Art was made popular by its use in a 1964 Time magazine article, and its origins date back many years.
Who was Victor Vasarely (when did he live, where was he from, what media did he use, what type of shapes did he use,was his work primarily color or black and white)? - He was a Hungarian-French artist, who is widely accepted as a “grandfather” and leader of the short-lived op art movement. Over the course of three decades, Vasarely developed his style of geometric abstract art, working mostly with black and white.
Who was Bridget Riley(when did she live, where was she from, what media did she use, what type of shapes did he use,was his work primarily color or black and white)?? -
How are their works similar? how do they differ? - They are similar in that their art styles are the same (op art). They are different because Victor’s art was mainly geometric shapes, Bridgit Riley’s was very abstract.
What is your personal opinion of Op Art? - It’s amazing!
